Sharing hydro-meteorological data in the Mekong

7 November 2012

Convened by the mekong-river-commission (MRC), the symposium on hydro-meteorological networks reviews past work and explores current needs in the region for accurate and readily available hydro-meteorological data. Such data has been used by the MRC Member Countries, Cambodia, Lao PDR, Thailand and Vietnam for flood forecasting and warnings, inputs to modelling and improving the understanding of the dynamics of the river, as well as other purposes such as navigation and fisheries. Getting real-time data through the MRC’s regional platform means the countries can enhance their flood forecasting and warnings.

Providing networking opportunities, the symposium enabled regional and international experts to share profound and subtle insights on the importance of this real-time data, and future strengthen cooperation on regional data sharing. The international symposium brought delegates from different sectors such as hydropower, environmental sciences, irrigation and agriculture to disaster management.
