Singh pushes Himachal Pradesh hydro

20 July 2005

In an interview with India’s Outlook magazine, Singh said the state government has spoken with the central government to try to push forward the execution of power projects up to 300MW through the MoU route.

Out of the state’s 21,000MW hydroelectric potential, 6060MW has been commissioned and 4042MW of potential projects is being executed in the state.

The simplification of land acquisition and clearance to independent power producers, under the new proposed hydro electric policy, will aid Himachal Pradesh in exploiting more of its hydro power potential, he pointed out.

Mr Singh said the 1500MW capacity Natpha Jhakri hydroelectric project alone will produce US$391M/yr. The state will get an annual revenue of US$57.5M from the project.
