11 September 2007

Works included in the package include the overhaul of all six 250MW turbines and generators plus MIVs and auxiliaries. In addition, the works will also involve overhauling three shaft seal assemblies.

In total, SJVN estimates the works will take 105 days at most with two units and associated equipment being overhauled every 35 days or less. The client wishes the contractor to undertake the works with three shifts daily every day per week, including holidays.

Deadline for fixed price tenders is 21 September, and bids are to be opened the same day at the New Shimla offices of the client, it said.

The Nathpa Jhakri scheme was built on the Sutlej river between Nathpa and Jhakri in the districts of Kinnaur and Shimla, respectively - the dam being located closer to the former village. The underground power house is sited nearer to the village of Jhakri, which is approximately 45km downstream of Nathpa.

SJVN was formerly Nathpa Khakri Power Corp, and is a joint venture between the national government and the government of Himachal Pradesh.
