6 February 2009

Tenders for the studies and design work on the project have a submission deadline of 17 February.

The state Government noted that the higher capacity could be possible when discussing the development potential of SJVN, which it sees as potentially having a hydro power portfolio of up to 6GW.

SJVN is a joint venture of the Government of India and the state Government of Himachal Pradesh.

Early planning for the Dhaulasidh project saw the plant with a capacity of 40MW, and this is the size noted in the call for tenders for the design work. The project is to be built on the river Beas in the state of Himachal Pradesh.

Those plans have envisaged a 130m high concrete masonry dam capable of discharging 13,335m3/sec.
