SMEC to keep Scrivener Dam Safe

27 June 2013

SMEC has been awarded a three year dam safety and surveillance consultancy services contract for Scrivener Dam by the National Capital Authority (NCA) in Canberra.

Scrivener Dam is a concrete gravity dam that impounds Molonglo River, creating Lake Burley Griffin in the centre of Canberra. Completed in 1964, the 33m high, 320m long dam is designed to withstand a one in a 5,000 year flood.

In addition to conducting regular safety inspections of the dam, SMEC will undertake a major Dam Safety Review within the next 12 months. Following this, SMEC will provide a detailed risk assessment and associated risk reduction strategy for the dam.
