SMEC to work on Tanzania’s Ruhudji hydro project

SMEC will assist and advise MEM and other stakeholders on the technical aspects of the project during two phases: technical appraisal until financial close and contract award; and construction supervision, certification and commissioning.

The 358MW Ruhudji hydropower project is located in southern Tanzania on the Ruhudji River. Upon completion, the project will generate 2000GWh of electricity per annum and comprise of a reservoir and power plant downstream from an earth and rockfill dam. The dam will be 70m high with a crest length of 810m and reservoir capacity of 269Mm3.

The Government of Tanzania intends to develop the project as a public-private partnership.
