SN Power cuts back on Nepal activities

17 September 2012

The company said its efforts to develop new hydropower in Nepal have suffered setbacks over several years leading to a decision to put on hold new business and project development activities in Nepal. A statement said that due to lack of progress on new projects, the company has made the decision to reduce staffing levels. A total of eleven employees have taken a severance package to end employment with the company in Nepal.

SN Power has received the Project Development Documents (PDA) for Tamakoshi-3 Project and will continue to pursue negotiations with Government of Nepal to maintain the rights to develop the project. Outside of the PDA negotiations for Tamakoshi-3, SN Power will, at the present time, only pursue new projects through its joint venture Himal Power Limited (HPL). Business development activities at HPL are currently exclusively focused on the 67MW Kirne Project – an expansion of the Khimti plant. The company will retain its ownership and engagement in Himal Power Ltd (HPL), and this firm has not affected by this decision.
