A joint venture of SNC-Lavalin and M. Sullivan & Son Limited (Sullivan) have been awarded the front end engineering design (FEED) phase for exploring the redevelopment opportunity at the Calabogie Generating Station owned by Ontario Power Generation Inc. (OPG).
This phase 1 work – which is anticipated to be completed by the end of 2019 - includes furthering the project cost and schedule. Hydraulic constraints will be identified, followed by an existing facility condition assessment and extensive vetting of various turbine and generator (T&G) options. Options for redeveloping the facility as well as building a new facility will be examined. Upon completion of the first phase and if the project receives all necessary OPG approvals, the project would advance to phase 2 which is an Engineering, Procurement & Construction (EPC) to develop the project.
Redeveloping the existing five-megawatt station could increase Calabogie’s capacity to approximately 10 to 15MW while extending its operating life.
The Calabogie Generating Station is located near Renfrew, Ontario in the Greater Madawaska Township on the Madawaska River. It was constructed and developed during World War I by the Calabogie Light and Power Company and has been producing renewable, low-cost electricity for more than 100 years.
