South Korea announces tidal record breaker

The Shihwa tidal power plant will be able to generate 254MW per hour using the flow of seawater into Shihwa Lake. The proposed output is to be higher than that of the La Rance power plant in France which is currently the largest tidal power plant and generates some 200MW.

The Korea Water Resources Corporation is to finance the whole project costs, estimated at around US$316M.
