Spillway works at Scoggins dam

14 October 2003

Scaffolding has been erected to enable crews to reinforce the spillway gate arms. Work is expected to be completed by the middle of October.

USBR officials stress that the dam is safe, and that the modifications are designed to meet current seismic criteria. The work is being completed based on an agency-wide evaluation of radial arm gates, similar to those at Scoggins dam.

The dam, located on the Tualatin river, was completed in 1978 and provides irrigation water from Henry Hagg reservoir for approximately 6879.9ha.
