The project aims to help the Sri Lankan government achieve its goal of connecting 80% of its population to the national electricity network by 2010. The project will cover the country's rural regions where there are 25,000 villages. Hydro will conduct a statistical analysis of the current problems facing Sri Lanka's rural communities, and review the existing electrical infrastructure in the villages.
It will also assess the current tariff structure and find ways to encourage more families that it is worthwhile to connect to the power grid. The consultation will start this August and is scheduled to end in April of 2005.
