SSE Renewables wins consent for new small hydro scheme

13 September 2010

The hydro scheme will consist of a new dam and storage reservoir at the head of Gleann Mhuire, a buried pipeline running down the glen and a semi-buried powerhouse with associated tailrace built next to the Abhainn na Glasa upstream of Kildermorie Lodge.

Construction work on the project is expected to start within the next 12 months, with work expected to take around two years to complete.

SSE currently has 3660MW of renewable energy capacity in operation, under construction or with consent for development in the UK and Ireland
