Study investigates feasibility of hydro plant at Burdekin Falls, Australia

16 March 2010

The planned hydro station would take advantage of water released from the dam and would have the capability to produce enough power to supply up to 9500 homes annually.

The project supports the Queensland Government’s Renewable Energy Plan which aims to have more than 2500 MW of renewable energy installed by 2020 (20% of the National Renewable Energy Target) – 31MW of which is earmarked for hydro operations.

Stanwell is an owner and operator of several hydroelectric power stations across Queensland, including the 86MW Kareeya project, 7MW Koombooloomba project, 60MW Barron Gorge project, and the 4.5MW Wivenhoe small hydro scheme.
