Sustainability targets set for UK business

4 May 2002

UK CONSTRUCTION MINISTER Brian Wilson has launched a strategy promoting sustainable construction and improved productivity in the civil engineering sector.

Society, Sustainability and Civil Engineering addresses the issues of reducing waste, improving the environment and providing training and health and safety information. It also sets targets for measuring progress and commits the industry to reporting annually on these targets.

The strategy document is the result of work by five major industry bodies: the Institution of Civil Engineers; the Civil Engineering Contractors Association; the Construction Products Association; the Construction Industry Research and Information Association; and the association-of-consulting-engineers.
