Latvian energy and power supply company AS Latvenergo has contracted Sweco to assist with procurement of suppliers, project management and technical advice, as well as delivery and implementation control during modernisation of the Plavinas and Kegums 2 hydro plants.
Originally completed in 1966 and 1979 respectively, Plavinas and Kegums 2 are located on the Daugava River in central Latvia. The Plavinas power station contains ten turbines with a total installed output of around 900MW. Kegum 2 contains three turbines with a total installed output of approximately 180MW. The modernization project is scheduled for completion at the end of 2018.
