Each plant will have an installed capacity of up to 10 MW. It is envisaged that these plants will start generating electricity four of five years after contracts are signed.

The deadline for bids for the design, building, operation and transfer (DBOT) of the plants is February 1, 2008.

The Montenegro authorities aim to increase the proportion held by small hydroelectric power plants in total national electricity production from the current 1 per cent to 2.5 per cent by 2015. Montenegro currently has nine small hydroelectric power plants with a total capacity of 7-8 MW and generating 200 million kWh of electricity a year.
