Three Gorges dam work nears completion

According to reports by Chinese news agency Xinhua, general manager of the China Yangtze River Three Gorges Project Development and Construction, Li Yong’an, said workers are making a concerted effort to complete the dam to a height of 185m. By late 2005, the dam stood at 160m high.

Following the flood season, the water level in the Three Gorges reservoir is expected to reach 156m.

The Three Gorges project, which was launched in 1993, is expected to be fully complete in 2009, when it will generate approximately 84.7BkWh annually.
