Tool of the trade

17 September 2001

A borehole logging probe for fracture imaging and characterisation has been launched by Robertson Geologging of the UK.

The High Resolution Acoustic Tool (HRAT) is constructed from the latest high-performance 1-3 piezo-composite materials and provides high signal output with a narrow beam, free from side lobes.

The transducer features a fixed acoustic transducer and a rotating acoustic mirror capable of focusing in borehole sizes from the probe diameter up to 400mm. Modules are interchangeable with 0.5, 1.5 and 3.0MHz options to suit all borehole conditions.

The probe is also supplied with a choice of RG-DIP or GMI Imager interpretation software for feature picking, characterisation and advanced interpretation aids including stereoplots, histograms and synthetic core imaging.
