Top marks for Vattenfall's dam safety activities

3 July 2003

VATTENFALL HAS BEEN commended for its dam safety activities, by a panel of internationally renowned experts after a review of the utilities dams.

After three days of in-depth interviews with a large number of key staff within the Vattenfall Group, and from external bodies such as Svenska Kraftnät, Svensk Energi, Elforsk and Vattenregleringsföretagen, the panel said the overall standard of risk management was very high.

Members of the review group included Gary Salmon, former Director of Dam Safety at BC Hydro in Canada and Ferdinand Budweg, an expert in dam safety from Brazil.

An extensive investment programme is under way to upgrade and strengthen Vattenfall's Swedish hydro power dams on the basis of new and more demanding guidelines and new risk assessments.
