Turbine fire reported at Gardners Falls plant, US

18 April 2017

Fire has damaged the turbine hall at the 3.58MW Gardners Falls hydroelectric plant in Franklin County, Massachusetts.

Fire crews from around the county last night tackled a blaze at the project, in the town of Buckland, local media has reported. There were no injuries as a result of the fire, which, according to initial reports, was likely caused by a turbine overheating and oil catching fire – although the official cause is still being determined.

Buckland Fire Chief Herb Guyette told reporters that the fire had been contained and was extinguished in about an hour.

The hydroelectric plant was offline at the time of the incident.
