The power stations are to be constructed in the country’s Phu Yen and Nghe An provinces by Electricity of Viet Nam, which aims to install a total of six hydro schemes in 2004, according to a Vietnamese news agency report.

Around US$127M is to go towards equipment for the projects, which are expected to generate on average in excess of 1.9BkWh of electricity a year once up and running.

Meanwhile, work has started on the 273MW Se San Number 3 dam in Se San, located some 20km below the Yaly hydroelectric station.

Song Da Corporation is the main contractor on the project, which is expected to cost US$260M and to be completed in 2005.
