Alstom will increase the output of each of the four generators by 15% from 475MVA to 526MVA, taking the overall output of the Mica underground power house to 2100MVA, and improve the reliability of the machines.
The upgrading work will include supplying new stators, coolers and poles, with Alstom’s hydro unit in Tracy, Canada, being in charge of the manufacturing, installation and commissioning of the project. The first unit is scheduled for delivery in June 2006, with the last one to be delivered in June 2009.
The Mica hydroelectric generating station, located on the Columbia river near Revelstoke, was commissioned in the 1970’s and produces 17% of British Columbia’s total electricity.
