Uri-II project inaugurated in India

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has officially inaugurated the 240MW Uri-II hydroelectric project on the Jhelum river in Jammu & Kashmir.

Uri-II is located downstream of the existing 480MW Uri-I project. Built by Hindustan Construction Company, it features a 52m high, 157m long concrete gravity dam, and the project's powerhouse houses four 60MW units.

All four Francis vertical turbines were supplied by Alstom, and were commissioned in phases, with Unit 1 and 3 synchronised in September 2013, Unit 2 in November 2013 and Unit 4 in February 2014
