The contract – funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) – covers installation of a 105ft slurry wall in the levee's fragile northeast reach.
"This construction project is the first of several phases that will eventually significantly reduce flood risk for the city of Marysville," said USACE project manager Mark Ellis.
Slurry wall construction is scheduled to be complete by November 2011.
Installing the slurry wall is the first of four phases of the Marysville Ring Levee Project, a partnership of the Marysville Levee District, the California Central Valley Flood Protection Board, and USACE to upgrade the 7.6-mile levee that surrounds the city of Marysville. The project is scheduled to be completed in late 2013, at a projected cost of $100M.
