The US$689,332 contract for fish passage improvements is scheduled to commence in October on the Tieton river, and is part of the Yakima-Tieton project to improve movements for bull trout and steelhead. Work should be completed in under eight months.
Less than 2m high, the concrete diversion dam was built 99 years ago some 50km north west of Yakima. The dam is one of eight such structures serving the USBR's Yakima project.
Bull trout and steelhead are both classed as threatened fish under the US Endangered Species Act.
