USBR gives fed recovery funds for Folsom transformer upgrade

7 August 2009

Two outdated transformers in the 198MW plant are to be replaced under a US$4.5M contract placed with the Arkansas company.

The Folsom plant is located on the American river and became operational in 1955. The facilities, constructed by the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), include a concrete gravity dam.

The turbine (Francis)-generators at the plant were uprated from the original nameplate capacity of 162MW in 1972. The plant’s net generation is about 425GWh of electricity per year.
