12 July 2007

The project aims to study and evaluate wave energy at a research installation in Skagerak, located approximately 2 kilometres west of Lysekil on the west coast of Sweden.

The Islandsberg research area has been granted a permit for ten generators that will be deployed on a gradual basis up to 2009. The project involves a total investment of SEK 50M ($7.5M) and Vattenfall, which has previously invested SEK 4M ($600,000), will now invest an additional SEK 9M ($1.4M) in basic research linked to the research area.

Other companies and organizations funding the project include the Swedish Energy Agency (Statens Energimyndighet), Swedish west-coast power producers Göteborgs Energi and Falkenberg Energi, and a number of suppliers and manufacturers.
