Velcan sells final hydro plant in Indonesia

3 July 2018

Velcan has announced it is shutting down its operations in Indonesia after completing the sale of its last hydropower plant in the country – the 18MW Redelong hydro project.

The project, located in the Aceh province of Sumatera, was sold to an Indonesian industrial group for an undisclosed sum.

After the Meureubo 2 (59MW) and the Sukarame (7MW) hydropower plants were sold – which Velcan said was due to administrative blockages encountered, an unavailability of satisfactory PPAs, – the Redelong project was Velcan’s last facility in Indonesia. Velcan said the small size of the project did not economically justify having full operations in the country.
