The utility also plans to build two 500kV transmission lines to link Pleiku in the central highland province of Dac Lac to the central province of Da Nang, and link Da Nang to Thuong Tin in the northern province of Ha Tay. The new lines will join the 500kV Pleiku-Phu Lam of Ho Chi Minh City line to form the country's second trans-national line and regulate its transmission system.

Vietnam currently has 14 power plants with a combined capacity of 8,000MW. They include eight hydro stations, which account for 52% of national electricity output.
