Voith to equip Sri Lankan hydro plant

23 April 2015

Voith has been selected by the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) - Sri Lanka's largest energy provider - to supply equipment for a project to modernize the Polpitiya hydropower plant.

Under the terms of the deal, Voith will supply electro-mechanical equipment for Polpitiya's two 37.5MW generating units and the accompanying spherical valves. It will also overhaul the spiral cases and draft tubes, as well as take over the erection and commissioning of the plant. Voith Financial Services has structured the financing of the project.

The modernization project will significantly increase Polpitiya's performance. The plant was originally connected to the grid in 1969, and its rehabilitation will help ensure the plants reliability into the future.
