Options include increased pumping from Tallowa dam, as well as accessing quantities of water at the bottom of some Sydney Catchment Authority storages that currently cannot be extracted.
Meanwhile, the NSW government imposed mandatory water restrictions in Sydney, the Illawarra and the Blue Mountains beginning on 1 June 2004. The announcement came after weeks of dry weather with below average rainfall, which brought Sydney’s water supply reservoirs including the Warragamba to 50.2% of their capacity.
Consumers were given two weeks until 14 June to adjust to the change before Sydney Water, the water supply utility, starts issuing fines for non compliance.
