Watts up at Yacyreta

2 March 2007

The plant's water level stands at roughly 78m above sea level, according to EBY. As part of the timeline for the project's completion plan, EBY aims to reach a water level of 78.5m asl by July 2007. EBY's goal is to reach a final water level of 83m asl by the end of 2008.

Raising the operating level would enable the plant's 3200GW capacity to produce 19.7GWh a year compared to 12.3GWh in 2002, the statement said. At full capacity, the plant would generate 64.8% more than in 2004 from its 20 turbines and provide 20% of Argentina's energy production.

EBY plans to award two tenders for works at Yacyreta in the coming months. The tenders are for the construction of dykes on the right bank of the Paraná river as well as roadworks that include upgrades, construction of a 7km embankment near Carmen del Paraná and access roads to the city.
