The Construction Corporation No.1 began work on the Dak R'Tih hydroelectric power plant in the Vietnamese Central Highlands province of Dak Nong on 8 February, according to the Vietnamese News Agency. The plant will be equipped with four generating units producing 614MkWh of electricity each year. Investment in the plant will total around US$213M.
The construction of the dam at Ban Ve hydroelectric power plant began on February 10 in Tuong Duong district in central Vietnam's Nghe An province. The dam will be 480m long and 137m high, and will cost around US$44M to construct. The dam is expected to be complete by August 2008, with the first generating unit to start operation in early 2009. Construction of the project's hydroelectric power plant began in August 2004.
Also under construction is the Da Dang No.2 hydroelectric power plant in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong.
The 34MW plant will produce around 152MkWh of electricity a year when completed. It will cost US$37M to construct, with its operation expected to start in the second quarter of 2009.
