World Bank ultimatum over Tarbela displacement

THE WORLD BANK has asked Pakistan to resolve the issue of the persons displaced by construction of the Tarbela dam expeditiously, or face freezing of money available for the Ghazi Barotha Project.

The provincial governments of Sindh, Punjab and the North West Frontier Province have been directed to provide 2873ha, 5746ha and 1055ha, respectively, to resettle the remaining families rendered displaced due to the Tarbela dam project over 27 years ago.
