Siemens to exit solar and focus on hydro

Siemens has announced that it will modify its business strategy and organisational setup with respect to renewable energy. The company intends to focus its renewable energy activities on hydro power and wind with plans to divest its solar business activities. As part of this reorganisation, the Energy Sector will be slimmed down and the Solar and Hydro Division will be discontinued. The remaining business activities of the defunct division (hydro power and solutions for energy storage devices) will remain within the Energy Sector. The company’s hydroelectric activities include the joint venture with Voith Hydro which focuses on conventional hydro plants and tidal turbines and was fully acquired in the spring of 2012.
