Generator problems reported at Toktogul hydro facility
08 December 2009

Electricity supplies were temporarily restricted earlier today in Kyrgyzstan following failures of two of the Toktogul hydro plant’s four generating units, RIA Novosti has reported

A spokesperson for the dam’s operator confirmed that there unplanned shutdowns of the second and third generators. Repairs are currently been carried out, and the country’s government has said the situation is safe and under control.

No reason for the unit shutdowns has yet been given.

Toktogul hydro facility is located on the Naryn River, and produces 40% of the country’s electricity. All four of the project’s turbine-generators were commissioned in 1975.
