15 October 2008

The Ministry of Electric Power No 1 signed an agreement with two firms, Italian-Thai Development Public Co and Wind Fall Energy Services, to develop the 600MW Taninthayi plant.

The Ministry has also reported that the 790MW Yeywa project on the Myitnge river is almost 66% complete overall, and the RCC dam construction is 96% finished.

Concrete placement for the 134m high dam, which will have a volume of approximately 2.4Mm3, is being done by China's Gezhouba Water and Power. Work began in February 2006 and a year ago more than 60% of the structure had been placed.
