Voith Hydro has completed a major generator modernisation project at EDF’s Brommat hydropower plant in central France, marking a key milestone in the upgrade of the facility.
The project included the delivery and installation of a new stator weighing approximately 260 tonnes. Lifting operations and final assembly in the powerhouse pit were completed in October 2025, along with the removal of existing stator components inside the underground cavern. Following commissioning and efficiency testing, the unit entered commercial operation in early November 2025.
Despite logistical and technical challenges, including restricted access for heavy transport, limited working space inside the cavern, and parallel construction activities, the project was delivered on schedule. The modernised 246MW unit is now fully available and supporting grid demand during the winter peak period.
Voith said the successful completion was achieved through close coordination with EDF’s local teams, as well as project partners and suppliers.
The Brommat plant is considered a strategically important asset within EDF’s hydropower portfolio, contributing to system flexibility and peak load coverage in the French power system.
