Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (HPPCL) has declared Mumbai-based Patel Engineering Limited as the lowest bidder (L1) for Package-1 of the Renuka Ji Dam Project.
The contract is valued at ₹910.08 crore, including GST, equivalent to approximately US$109m.
The project is located at Village Dadahu in Tehsil Renuka, District Sirmaur, in the northern Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. Construction is scheduled for completion within 30 months.
Package-1 includes the construction of three diversion tunnels with a diameter of 9.5m and lengths of 1379m, 1468m, and 1590m. The scope also covers the development of three inlet and outlet portals, construction of 6km access roads, installation of hydro-mechanical gates for the diversion tunnels, and instrumentation works.
The Renuka Ji Dam Project is intended to increase water storage capacity, improve water supply reliability, and support hydropower generation in the region.
Kavita Shirvaikar, Managing Director of Patel Engineering, said the award reflects the company’s capability in executing large infrastructure projects and strengthens its position in India’s water and hydropower sector.
According to HPPCL, the Renuka Ji Dam Project has been conceived as a storage scheme on the Giri River in Sirmaur district of Himachal Pradesh. The project includes the construction of a 148m high rockfill dam at Dadahu and a dam-toe powerhouse.
The reservoir is designed to provide 49,800 hectare-metres of live storage capacity and a firm water supply of 23m3/sec to Delhi. The dam site is located approximately 5km upstream of Jateon Barrage of the Giri Hydel Project and about 400m downstream of the confluence of Jogar-Ka-Khala with the Giri River.
The project has been designated as a Project of National Importance. As such, the cost excluding the power component will be shared between the Government of India and beneficiary states in a 90:10 ratio.
