Manitoba Hydro has appointed Hal Turner as interim President and CEO with immediate effect after Allan Danroth left the Canadian utility for personal reasons.
Turner, currently Manitoba Hydro’s Chief Operating Officer, joined the utility in 1995 and has more than 30 years of experience with the corporation.
Manitoba Hydro-Electric Board Chair Jamie Wilson said: “On behalf of the board, I want to thank Allan Danroth for his service to the organization.
“Allan led us through some important changes to our operations, including major improvements to our safety culture and work to replace our aging SAP software, among other initiatives.
“We wish him well in his future endeavours.”
Danroth had served as President and CEO of Manitoba Hydro for two years.
Turner previously served as interim CEO during the transition between the departure of former President and CEO Jay Grewal and Danroth’s appointment in 2024.
Wilson said the board will shortly begin a comprehensive internal and external search for a permanent President and CEO.
“While we get started on that critical work, the board has full confidence in Hal Turner, a Hydro veteran with more than 30 years of experience at the corporation, to successfully lead us through this transitional period,” Wilson said.
According to Wilson, the search will take account of current board and Manitoba provincial government priorities for the utility. These include keeping energy affordable, collaborating with Indigenous communities, supporting utility workers and progressing Manitoba Hydro’s development plan outlined in its recent Integrated Resource Plan (IRP).
“We believe that the path Manitoba Hydro is on, as outlined in the IRP, is the right path forward. It is the best way to meet Manitoba’s energy needs going forward,“ said Wilson.
