NHA applauds funding for waterpower program

In 2007, a major project was completed to install a micro hydroelectric system at the historical Town Mill on the River Lim in Lyme Regis, Dorset. The electricity produced at the 7kW project is used by Mill itself with the remainder sold into the National Grid.

Hastings project, US

In the US state of Minnesota, renewable energy company Hydro Green Energy partnered with the City of Hastings to install a two-turbine Hydro+ project downstream from the city’s 4.4MW run-of-river hydro power plant at the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Lock & Dam No 2 on the Mississippi river. The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) approved the project by a 5-0 vote on 13 December 2008. The Hastings project is the US’ first-ever federally-licensed hydrokinetic power station and the only hydrokinetic project exporting electricity to the US power grid for sale.
