US Secretary of State urged to promote all renewables in climate talks

Leaders of the US biomass, geothermal and hydropower industries have urged Secretary of State John Kerry to support a “pan-renewable technologies approach at COP-21.” In a joint letter, the National Hydropower Association, Biomass Power Association and Geothermal Energy Association noted that these three technologies provide 86% of the world’s renewable power today and are expected to grow in the coming decades.

Increased hydro production helps improve Vattenfall results

Swedish-owned energy company Vattenfall’s third quarter earnings improved as a result of lower costs and increased production. Total electricity generation output increased by 4.4TWh, compared with the third quarter for 2014. Hydropower increased due to higher precipitation – up from 6.1TWh for Q3/2014 to 9.5TWh this year.

GE has completed the acquisition of Alstom’s power and grid businesses. The completion of the transaction follows regulatory approval of the deal in over 20 countries and regions including the EU, US, China, India, Japan and Brazil. It is GE’s largest-ever industrial acquisition.
