ABB has won a contract worth around US$23M from the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) for the electrical rehabilitation of the Raccoon mountain pumped storage facility.
ABB Power Generation of Littleton, Colorado, a US unit of ABB, will rehabilitate the four existing generator motors at the TVA facility in Chatanooga, Tennessee. The project calls for increasing the output of each unit by 12%, to a new rating of 476MVA each. At the new level the motors will be among the largest pumped storage units in the US on a per unit output basis.
The work is due for completion by April 2004.
