AFRY has announced it has acquired freshwater ecology specialist EKOM in a bid to accelerate and enhance its work on Sweden’s national plan for reconsideration of hydropower's modern environmental conditions (NAP).
EKOM was founded in 2012 and focuses on issues related to the framework directive for water – both in hydropower but also in infrastructure projects. EKOM contributes with new and expanded competencies as well as service offerings to AFRY through, among other things, ecological inventories and investigations, ecological construction management and strategic services for future review processes.
“Adding the employees, competence and experience of EKOM in our range of services, AFRY has a position at the forefront when it comes to offering our customers a complete NAP offer,” commented Anders Frisk Section Manager River Hydraulics & Environment at AFRY. “Together with our leading flow analysts, dam safety experts and construction managers, we can meet our customers' needs providing a total commitment of environmental measures in hydropower and other areas. The need for expertise in freshwater ecology, eco-hydraulics and strategic consulting services is increasing sharply with the national plan (NAP).”
“The increasing importance of ecology issues and the complexity of societal developments have created a need for security among customers. Together via AFRY, we can offer a unique complete one-stop-shop solution where the customer finds security in our common cutting-edge expertise and our solid process experience. We look forward with confidence to developing this further together, with our new colleagues within AFRY,” added Mats Andersson, CEO EKOM.
EKOM is mainly active in the Swedish market. The company has 3 employees and is based in Hörnefors and Sorsele, Sweden. The company will be consolidated into AFRY from February 2021.
