Work includes replacing the rotating impeller of the original pump turbine, which was commissioned in 1973. The new Northfield impellers will be over 5.2m in diameter.

American Hydro of Pennsylvania, US, has been awarded a contract with a subsidiary of Northeast Utilities of Connecticut, US, to increase the efficiency and productivity of Unit 1 at its Northfield Mountain pumped storage project in Massachusetts.
