Statkraft Energi AS has awarded a contract to international technology group ANDRITZ to refurbish key components of the Svartisen hydropower plant in Norway.

The project has an order value in the lower double-digit million-euro range and is included in ANDRITZ’s order intake for the third quarter of 2025.

Svartisen is a 600MW hydropower plant jointly owned by Statkraft and Nordland County Municipality. The plant was commissioned in 1993 and expanded in 2010. It uses glacier-fed water from Lake Storglomvatn to generate electricity.

Under the contract, ANDRITZ will refurbish two Francis turbines with capacities of 350MW and 250MW, as well as one main inlet valve. The scope of supply includes advanced ceramic coatings to improve wear resistance and extend turbine service life. Both units will also be equipped with new digital turbine governors.

In addition, ANDRITZ will be responsible for the design, manufacturing, installation, and commissioning of the refurbished components, as well as training for Statkraft personnel.

The refurbishment is intended to support continued reliable operation of the Svartisen plant and maintain its role in Norway’s renewable power system.
