ANDRITZ has secured a contract to supply electromechanical equipment for a new run-of-river hydropower plant at Traunfall. The facility will replace three existing plants in the area – Gschröff, Siebenbrunn, and Traunfall – some of which have been operating since the late 19th century.

The new plant is being developed by Energie AG Oberösterreich and is expected to significantly increase the region’s renewable electricity output. Once operational, it is projected to generate approximately 125GWh annually, about 80% more than the combined output of the current plants.

ANDRITZ will supply two vertical Kaplan turbines rated at 15MW each, along with hydraulic control systems, cooling and sealing water systems, an excitation system, and two 17 MVA synchronous generators. The company will also handle transport, installation, and commissioning.

Construction is expected to be completed in 2028, with equipment deliveries scheduled to begin in 2027. Energie AG says the project is being developed with ecological sensitivity to reduce environmental impacts.

This is the second major contract awarded to ANDRITZ by Energie AG, following a similar project in Ebensee.
