The company is to provide two 3.6m diameter bulb turbines and generators plus governors and exciter systems for each plant.
Energie Steiermark and Verbund are building the plants at Gossendorf and Kalsdorf, and are planning for the facilities to be operational by 2012 and 2013, respectively.
The value of the order for electromechanical equipment placed with andritz is approximately Euro28M (US$39.2M). Andritz will also install and commission the equipment.
Earlier this month Verbund concluded a wholesale deal to supply compatriot utilities EVN and Wien Energie with approximately 10TWh of hydro output over 2010-13. The company said that 24TWh, or 89%, of its total annual output is from hydro power.
Verbund has also successfully concluded a Euro840M (US$1,176M) bond issue, part of the proceeds of which will be used to fund the cash element of the purchase deal with E.ON last month for 13 hydro power plants in the Inn Valley, in southern Germany.
A subsidiary company is being set up to hold and operate the plants, which have combined capacity of 312MW, and 30% of the ownership is to be offered to local municipalities.
