Brazilian electric utilities Coelba (Companhia de Eletricidade da Bahia), Eletropaulo, and Cesp have posted improved revenues due to tariff increases that came into effect in 1997.
Coelba posted a profit of R$57.8M between January and September, 1997. The result is attributed to reduction in staff and a 10.5 per cent increase in tariffs.
Eletropaulo has posted a net operating revenue of R$3.536bn over the same period, attributable to the 9.78 per cent tariff increase and a five per cent energy sales growth.
Cesp’s losses decreased from nearly R$400M to R$161.55M between January and September, 1997 compared with the same period in 1996.
