Brazilian power company, Cemig, will finalise the purchase of the Sá Carvalho hydro power plant by the end of April. The 78MW plant is currently owned by Acesita, a stainless steel manufacturer controlled by the French group Unisor.
The deal will cost R$86M (US$48M). Cemig will pay R$25M (US$14M) from its own resources and finance the remaining R$61M (US$34M). Cemig forecast investments of R$520M (US$289M) this year.
Cemig’s current generating capacity is 5893MW. The company also plans to increase its output by 930MW after five other hydro power plants are in operation.
